the rug woven by anita depicts celebration of most famous and widely celebrated indian festival, diwali. she has woven diya (lighted lamp) in the bottom of the rug, the middle part of the rug is covered with diwali lights, and other decorative things like festoon. after decorating home, it’s a tradition for family to sit together and do pooja of goddess laxmi, goddess saraswati, and god ganesha. a ghot is used for pooja, anita woven it in the carpet above diwali lights and named the rug, ‘laxmi’, behind the name of goddess laxmi. at the end of the festival night, her family busted firecrackers and ate together kulfi they made. she remembers the entire scene, and knots it beautifully in the rug.
