The Design Story
tajik (c.1920)Antique Tajik Kilim with Geometric Design, Central Asia, circa 1920 Amber glow and twilight blue define the field of this antique Tajik kilim, arranged in vertical panels of bold color bands. Within the panels, stepped diamond motifs and small cruciform devices appear in earthy tones of apricot, ivory, and deep brown, their repetition giving the rug a rhythmic and balanced composition. The borders are composed of horizontal bands in brown and ivory, accented with elongated hexagonal motifs that echo the central forms. This framing structure grounds the composition while allowing the vivid geometry of the field to command attention. A fine Tajik weaving, this kilim showcases the interplay of vibrant natural dyes, simple yet powerful motifs, and the timeless balance of geometric design.
