The Design Story
phool-pattiPhool-PattiSayari Devi loves weaving flowers and leaves, and they return again and again in her Manchaha rugs. She began this carpet with the motifs she feels closest to - simple flowers and leaves—letting them guide her hands from the very first row. Slowly, zig-zag lines started moving across the rug, creating a steady rhythm. Each zig-zag is carefully filled with small leaf forms, bringing a quiet sense of life and growth into the pattern. For Sayari Devi, these designs are not planned on paper. They come from memory, from what she sees around her every day, and from what feels right as she weaves. The rug grows section by section, changing gently as her thoughts change. At the top, she finishes the carpet with a bandarwal pattern - a festive decoration placed at the entrance of a home. The rug feels complete, warm, and welcoming. After finishing the rug, she named her Manchaha “Phool-Patti,” which means “Flowers and Leaves.”
