KurtiDesign Story: Every day, Kamli Devi used to see her daughter wear beautiful ‘kurtis’ on her jeans, out of which, one was particularly favorite to her. Taking inspiration from that, she started making her first original rug. Seeing her weave, her daughter often used to wonder about the designs which would make the rug look more beautiful. However, she would always hold her ideas back. Observing her curiosity, one day, Kamli Devi called her and asked her what’s on her mind. It was a moment of discovery for her, for her daughter had so many ideas for the rug. They then used to sit together every day and discuss the designs that would go on the rug. They chose colors which would make the rug look lively and colorful. Taking inspiration from her day to day life, Kamli Devi weaved a Kalash(earthen pot), some flowers, and leaves. She made two chandeliers at the bottom of the rug. She names her rug ‘Kurti’, as that is where her inspiration came from.
