Kamli is an artisan hailing from Manpura, Rajasthan. She’s been weaving for Jaipur Rugs for a long time and lives with another Artisan Original weaver, Neetu. She enjoys making these one-off rugs because she has complete control over what to design without a fear of making mistakes.
Kamli knew exactly what she wanted to do with the rug the minute the wool and silk arrived at her door. The first inspiration comes from her love of dressing up and the elaborate jewelry that commonly adorns Indian brides. The necklaces lay a foundation for the heart-shaped geometric designs but the most impactful part of this rug is what lies beyond the fence she’s placed. Kamli was a participant of the Recognition of Prior Learning initiative by the national government. It’s with this experience that she remembers learning about the value chain structure of the company. That knowledge has led her to draw a road that symbolizes the journey of her rug, traveling from her home to the Sadwa finishing center and then to Jaipur Rugs headquarters. She also remembered hearing about how her rug could be sent anywhere in the world which is why she crafted a large airplane symbolizing its global journey. She was keen to add clouds and a vast sky to show where her high-flying airplane will ascend. This sky theme is bordered by a second layer of intricacy, switching to the next earth element – water. The ocean-like setting complete with a ship, fish, corals and a beach with hot air balloons, finalizes the immense voyage she’ll always be a part of.
