HariyaliWeaver designer Bugali was determined to make a detailed and intricate pattern on her rug. She confesses that as the rug progressed she was unhappy with the pattern and thought that it wasn’t appealing. She approached the grassroot leader from her village, Prem, and shared her apprehensions. Prem inspired Bugali to use two-ply yarn of mixed colors and then play with varied motifs. Gaining her lost confidence, Bugali knotted shapes inspired by shakkarpara (common breakfast snack) and boxes. Her mother also helped her weave a few inches on the rug. Once complete, she loved her rug and laughed at herself for being nervous even though she had designed many rugs in the past. Bugali chose various shades of color green as they remind her of the freshness of grass. She calls her rug ‘Hariyali’ which is a Hindi word for greenery.
To the owner of the rugTo the owner of the rug, “Each time you walk on this rug, may you feel underfeet, the fresh dew drops that are found on grass-fields early in the morning”
