Santosh Devi lives in Achrol village in Rajasthan. After her husband passed away a few years back, she lives with her 3 children and her mother-in-law. Her eldest son studies in college, and aims to become an officer some day. She knows the art of rug weaving since 22 years, and supports her family from the income she generates through weaving.
Bhura KamalSantosh Devi’s rug tells a story of her surroundings. Her village is surrounded with distant mountains. She took inspiration from that, and filled her rug with patterns of mountain. She took inspiration from the soil which turns black after burning a land being irrigated for new crops. She made floral patterns, leaves which she sees in her backyard. The design also features ‘Maala’ which her goats wear. It took her 45 days to weave the design.
