A weaver from past 10 years, Sumitra Devi resides in the village Thanagazi. Initially, she used to work at the local centre, but later she asked her branch manager to set-up a loom at her place. She loves to weave and is proud that her family also respects and supports her. She says the best thing about working with Jaipur Rugs is that she gets money in her bank account which helps her save some money.
Neela ShakkarparaBeing her first Manchaha rug, Sumitra Devi was very scared to start weaving. She started by making straight and simple designs so that if she makes an error, it will not ruin the entire carpet. After a few inches of work, her family gave her confidence, and she set her imagination free. She made the design inspired from her door’s ‘jaali’(entrance). After a few days, it started raining in her village. Taking inspiration from nature, she made rain on her rug and completed the design. What started with straight and small Shakkarpara pattern ended with a beautiful intricate design.
