Savitri Devi from village Khawarani is weaving from past 20 years and associated with Jaipur Rugs from past 10 years. She has 4 children, two daughters and two sons. She is very hard working and divides her time between farming and weaving. She believes that one should never sit idle and do something which can lead to their development.
RitikLike her every fellow weaver-designer, Savitri was also very hesitant and worried to start her first Manchaha rug. As suggested by her friends, she started with the janjeera design and small motifs so that her mistake would not get noticed. When asked about the inspiration behind her design, Savitri Devi said that most of the things in the carpet are made by mistake. She wanted to make something but it didn’t turn out well. This rug was like her own canvas, where she experimented every possible thing that she could imagine. Some came out well, some didn’t. In one part, she wanted to make a beautiful flower but then it was looking more like a tortoise so she changed the design to a tortoise. In the end, she marked her name on the rug which she learnt from her children. She’s happy now that she knows how to write her own name. Message to buyer: She wanted to make it as beautiful as she can. She wants her buyer to love her rug and wants to make the company, her family and her village proud.
