A weaver by passion, Suman Devi has been weaving for Jaipur Rugs since the past 10 years. Suman has two kids and a husband who works as a daily wage earner. Not having had an education herself, Suman asserts on educating her kids and her 4 year old son has just started going to school.
Weaver Designer Suman Devi took a month to complete this rug; filled with mentions of butterflies from her garden. This rug is loaded with some intricate designs that have been inspired from her friend, Bugali’s work. In the centre, she places a mountain that holds a mighty Dansarey tree, a tree confined to the deserts of Rajasthan. What steals the show here are the many round and square boxes. These boxes have been inspired by the ones in Suman’s kitchen where she keeps her herbs. She imagines that these boxes have colours in them; thus naming her creation “colour ka dabba”.
