Kamla is 22 years old and loves her husband Dayaram deeply. She along with her husband lives with her parents and siblings. Her elder brother is a daily wage earner and younger brother studies literature in college. Kamla has been weaving since the last 3 years and her interest in weaving came from her sister-in-law who is also a weaver.
The rug has been designed by 2 weavers who are dear friends to each other. While Kamla loves bright colors and, Uganta Devi likes subtle shades, hence they both mutually decided to use the color scheme to make their rug look stylish. The square shaped patterns are inspired by watermelon (Tarbooj). The redness of the fruit finds its way right at the center of these shapes. Uganta Devi had hand-knotted a rug with a traditional pattern before and hence she has used some of the flower motifs from that rug onto this self-designed art-piece. The message of the weavers through this rug is, “May this rug which we made in two months, make you happy for two lifetimes”.
To the owner of the rug “May this rug which we made in two months, make you happy for two lifetimes”.
