The Design Story
dharaDharaWhen Sayari Devi sits down to weave, she does not look for inspiration; she just starts to weave, and inspiration follows her. In this Manchaha, she has woven many kinds of lines, each with its own rhythm and pattern. As the rug moves downward, the designs keep changing—sometimes tight, sometimes flowing. She enjoys weaving flowers and leaves, and you can see them appear gently in between the patterns, adding softness and life. Jhalar (fringe) and leheriya (wavy) patterns run through the rug, giving it movement and continuity. The colours shift slowly, and the lines feel like they are travelling rather than standing still. She said that each section is a different stream, which inspired the rug’s name, “Dhara” (Stream).
