The Design Story
"samudra ki sair,""Samudra Ki Sair,"Bimla and Pinki's Manchaha, "Samudra Ki Sair," portrays the beauty within the depth of the seas. Since Bimla and Pinki had received many shades of blue wool and silk yarns, they decided to hand-craft all the ocean animals they had ever seen. They began weaving patterns inspired by crabs at the bottom of the rug, surrounded by white shells that wash ashore with the waves. Bimla wove jellyfish to represent how they shine beautifully underwater. In the centre of their carpet, they hand-woven patterns inspired by octopuses moving upward with the flow of the oceans. Through their creativity, they have skillfully depicted the unique life cycle of sea creatures allover the hand-knotted rug.
