The Design Story
prayogPrayogThis Manchaha was woven by Mamta Devi, Aarati Devi, and Rekha Devi as an exploration of textures and patterns. Instead of focusing on one particular motif, the three weavers filled the rug with different weaving techniques, allowing each section to have its own character. The rug is divided into three parts, with each weaver experimenting individually. Some sections are woven with ‘leheriya’ (wavy patterns), while others feature fine lines, chevrons, dotted textures, and geometric forms. Right at the centre of the rug, the weavers have added a small Christmas tree motif. It stands quietly amidst the flowing textures, bringing a playful and unexpected element to the design. Rather than following a fixed plan, Mamta Devi, Aarati Devi, and Rekha Devi allowed the design to grow naturally on the loom. At the end, they named the rug “Prayog,” which means “Experiment.”
