The Design Story
ritu ke sangeetRitu ke Sangeet"Ritu Ke Sangeet" (The Music of Seasons) began as an array of rainbow hues, an expression of shared intent. Rajjo, the senior-most weaver, worked alongside her daughter Vimla and daughter-in-law Poonam. Though they started with the same plan, Rajjo soon felt the need to push beyond it, allowing the rug to grow organically with the season. It was monsoon time. The land around their home came alive! Small ponds filled with rainwater, ducks drifted across their surfaces, and Rajjo’s yearly ritual of nurturing plants began once again. These moments quietly entered the rug. Wildflowers appeared across the surface, echoing the landscape outside their door. In the top right corner sits a bagula (heron bird), woven by Vimla, whose affection for the bird shaped its presence. The weavers often joke that these birds visit their loom to check on the progress of the rug, returning again and again during the day. This Manchaha is a picture of rhythm—of rain, growth, work, and shared time. It reflects how three women, across generations, live and weave in quiet coexistence with nature, finding harmony in both craft and life.
