The Design Story
kheton ki khushaaliKheton ki KhushaaliAnjana Devi has always liked the idea of farms. There isn’t one in her parents’ home or in the house she married into, but she carries the image of a huge field of green in her mind. So she decided to weave this. In this rug, fields appear in pieces, some in blocks, some in lines, some broken like land seen from above. At the top, she placed a mountain. From it, a stream falls and cuts through the rug like a waterfall, turning into canals. The branch-like lines are spread out like paths leading to different farms. She mixes yarns to create soft shifts in colour, so parts of the rug look like they are moving. Small diamonds and tie-dye patterns are abstractly added between the fields, like signs of the culture around her. Anjana Devi named her rug “Kheton ki Khushaali”— ‘the happiness of farms’ that she has mystically created in this Manchaha.
