The Design Story
peheli koshishPeheli KoshishA toddler's first step is never perfect. But truth be told, it's one of the most beautiful sights. Amateur artists' first step is just the same. An amateur has the world to capture in their art with their nimble hands. Two of such amateurs, Naresh and Raj, have truly conquered the world with their first try. This is Naresh's and Raj's first carpet as he is learning to weave knot by knot. Raj has worked with bedsheets before, so he has a vague idea of visual designs. Raju and Jagdish were experienced weavers who fully supported the new weavers. As it was still a new experience for both of them, there was excitement as well as nervousness brewing inside them. That explains the name of their Manchaha rug "Pehli Koshish" (first try). They tried weaving flowers initially and thought they needed to do more justice to the design. They kept weaving and ended up weaving pots. There are designs for mountain ranges, fish, stars, "Shakkarpara" (Indian sweet), etc. The elements in the carpet had no theme, no limits. There are designs from a gate and even from a net. Raj was influenced by the bedsheets he used to sell before entering the prison. Both of them loved working with each other and their gurus. As the list of elements woven into the carpet is endless, the group claims that every time you see the carpet, you will discover something new.
