The Design Story
man ka melMan Ka MelKiran, Vandana, and Suman collaborated to create a carpet, with the thought of designing it for their own homes. They said that when they thought of how the carpet would look in their homes, they gave their best effort. They began with a symmetrical form but eventually transformed it into an abstract design, hand-knotting an array of beautifully hand-knotted designs. The process of making this carpet started during the wheat crop cutting season and ended during the rice crop sowing season. The design of this carpet was inspired by the ongoing activities in the farms and their surrounding areas. Although they had differing opinions, they were able to come to a mutual decision when it came to the layout of the designs throughout the carpet. That's why they chose to call it "Man ka Mel" which translates to "Match of Hearts."
