The Design Story
kacholi ghatKacholi GhatMamta Devi skillfully narrates the story of daily village life in her Manchaha “Kacholi Ghat.” Inspired by the place where the villagers collect water, the design incorporates a map of the village, featuring key elements such as the entrance Toran gate, the Kacholi river, and the brick chimney. The imagery also reflects the rugged terrain with mountains, protective fences for farms, and the persistent challenge of water scarcity in her village. In addition to these elements, the rug is adorned with patterns representing rivers and rain, reflecting Mamta’s hope and prayer for her village to receive ample water soon. Through this hand-knotted creation, Mamta Devi intertwines her dreams and aspirations with the vibrant depiction of her community and its surroundings.
