The Design Story
pehli aawazPehli AawazThis rug marks a historic moment! It was not only the first-ever Manchaha woven by this family, but also the first from their entire village. Gajanand, his wife Santosh, and their daughter Neetu poured their hearts into it, proudly creating something entirely their own. Gajanand and Santosh have been weaving side by side for 25 years. He taught her after their marriage, and together they nurtured a love for the craft that now lives on in Neetu, who balances weaving with her Bachelor of Arts studies. Naturally curious and observant, Neetu absorbed the art growing up and joined in as a confident third voice. Their Manchaha became the talk of the town. No one had imagined a carpet could be a canvas of personal stories. Visitors came in awe, witnessing a loom with curiosity, surprising themselves, even some came to enquire if this was really true, a carpet without a map? Many questions! Gajanand lead early on, guiding the layout. But soon, each weaver branched into their own visual language. Santosh revisited patterns from her past work—leaves, diamonds—echoes of rugs once woven, now reborn in a fresher, more contemporary way. Neetu’s contribution was bold and new: diagonal lines clashing in dynamic strokes, fearless and unfiltered. And Gajanand, in the center, harmonized both ends, rooted in tradition, yet open to change. Together, they created not just a carpet, but a landmark. The trio marked their creation as a milestone in their weaving journey, naming it ‘Pehli Aawaz’—the first voice that transformed them from weavers into artists.
