The Design Story
batevadaBatevadaNaina and Archana crafted a unique carpet, inspired by India’s resourcefulness. Both weavers named this Manchaha carpet “Batevada” which means cow dung cakes. They weaved that on the carpet as a design, which was Archana’s idea. Initially, it featured the classic ‘Leheriya’ pattern. Later, they included elements from a saree, the peepal tree motifs, two lotus flowers and local toffee. They have also added personal touches such as their children’s drawing book, cricket bats, and balls, reflecting their everyday life. The carpet also showcases peacocks, grass, roads, and a bandarwal (decorational hangings). Through this hand-knotted rug, Naina and Archana celebrated tradition and modern life, blending them into a colorful tapestry of Indian culture.
