The Design Story
saajhedaariSaajhedaariThis Manchaha began with order. At the bottom, senior artists Dariyab and Nirma led the loom, weaving steady, familiar checkered patterns shaped by years of practice. The two Priyankas, the young artists, followed the same rhythm, until repetition turned into restlessness. Slowly, the designs loosened. A flower appeared, then colors from clothes, memories of fields, shiny jewelry, tiles from home. What began as discipline turned into play. When one weaver was absent, another stepped in, filling that space with their own ideas. No boundaries were guarded. Everyone allowed the patterns to wander. By the end, the rug became a meeting of four minds, order and chaos living side by side. “Saajhedaari” is the name the artists gave to this Manchaha rug, a word that means partnership beyond rules. This Manchaha doesn’t hide its making. It shows four people weaving not only patterns, but their moods, their presence, and their absence, exactly as it happened.
