The Design Story
mann ka darpanMann Ka Darpan"Mann Ka Darpan" is a unique and symmetrical piece of art created by Prem Devi. Initially, she poured various colors onto the rug without much thought. After a few days, she experienced a self-realization about the significance of creating on a canvas she deeply values. Inspired, she planned the design by dividing the rug into two halves and created designs that formed a mirror image. This required an impressive level of skill, as the Manchaha weavers plan the designs without any prior sketches or instructions. The design features elements of village life, such as wild plants, huts, and classic Shakkarpaara (diamond motifs) but the most striking aspect is the depiction of two elephants facing each other, dressed in intricate attire—reflecting Rajasthan's cultural heritage of royalty riding elephants. At the top of the rug, two eagles soar high in the sky, symbolizing Prem's journey of self-discovery as she creates something authentic. This personal connection inspired her to name the rug "Mann Ka Darpan," meaning "A Reflection of the Heart."
