The Design Story
mann ki leherMann ki Leher“Mann ki Leher,” or “Waves of the Mind,” is a portrayal of Neetu Devi’s love for oceans. Neetu Devi started this Manchaha with waves. Amidst the red background, she introduced the blue waves as a contrast that would bring peace to the colour palette. She wanted the rug to move, not sit still. As she kept weaving, other patterns came in naturally. She added butterfly motifs, then wavy patterns called ‘leheriya’, letting the lines shift and turn. In between, she wove flower buds - small, repeated forms that filled the surface. There was no fixed design. She did not plan what would come next. She simply followed the rhythm of her hands. When the rug felt complete, she returned to the waves again, ending it the same way she began. The rug moves from pattern to pattern without stopping. It carries a steady flow, with changes along the way, like water that keeps moving forward.
