The Design Story

ankahi

Ankahi
At first, Jagdish, Ramdev, and Kamlesh gathered around the loom, each handling a different part of the rug. They didn't follow a strict plan but wove whatever came to their minds. A few days later, Kailash and Raju joined them. With five weavers now, they decided to split the rug into two bigger sections. One team worked on the left side, while the other worked on the right, meeting in the middle as the rug slowly came together. There was no pre-drawn design; they wove straight from their memories and imaginations. Stars, zig-zag paths, small mountains, diamonds, boxes, and even something like a zebra crossing—each pattern appeared naturally, like a flowing conversation. This rug captures the quiet energy of five people weaving together, sharing time, space, and stories, without needing many words. With this, they named the rug “Ankahi,” meaning “Unspoken.”
