The Design Story
seep ke rangSeep Ke RangAnnu and Tara, friends turned into weaving partners, had spent their entire lives surrounded by the sands of their desert village. On days when the wind was kind, they’d wander barefoot across the dunes, searching for treasures nature left behind. Their favorite find was the "seep"—shells hidden deep within the sand. They related the tones of the yarns similar to these shells. They loved how the shells seemed simple at first glance, but when held up to the light, their iridescent colors revealed stories of time and tides. When it came time to design their Manchaha rug, they decided to weave their world into it—not just the shells they admired but the life they lived. The base of the rug, with its free-flowing, hazy design, represents the sand dunes they cross every day. As the design grows quieter in the middle, a long, steep diagonal road cuts through the rug. Annu beautifully said pointing at that road, “We don’t know where it ends, but we’ll walk it together.” The mountains begin to rise, their peaks touching the sky. These are the mountains they see from their village, distant yet familiar. The mountains make them feel safe. This simple rug is a symbol of friendship and the quiet beauty of a life lived close to the earth.
