samen kilim (c.1960)Key Feature of Samen Kilim: Patchwork design with framed geometric panels, bold tribal motifs in natural dyes, and a rare expression of village weaving with strong collector’s appeal. This 1960 Samen Kilim, woven in Iran, is a grand-format textile measuring 17' × 24'6". Its base is composed of medieval blue and white tones, with the field arranged as a patchwork of smaller kilim “windows,” each showcasing a distinct tribal motif—scorpions, amulets, and lozenges. The borders display stepped medallions and rhythmic stripes, providing both unity and motion to the overall design. The sharp geometry, balanced symmetry, and integration of diverse tribal vocabulary into a cohesive composition highlight the mastery of Persian flatweave craftsmanship.
