The Design Story
ek nai dishaEk Nai DishaNeetu Devi, a masterful artisan, embodies quiet resilience and grace shaped by years of hardship. Orphaned at a young age and forced to take on responsibility early, she began weaving carpets at just 17 to support her family. Life tested her again when her husband left, and Neetu found herself raising her daughter, Disha, on her own. Yet adversity never dimmed her spirit. Alongside weaving, she sews and participates in government-led tree plantation work, doing whatever it takes to build a secure life for her child. Her loom has witnessed every emotion—struggle, tears, strength, and hope, and at the heart of it all stands Disha. Deeply involved in Neetu’s creative journey, Disha brings ideas from her notebooks, clothes, and drawings, guiding what her mother weaves next. “She is the real director of my Manchahas,” Neetu says fondly. True to her name, which means *direction*, Disha shaped the rug at every step. With each completed foot came a new idea, new turn, and new path—giving birth to "Ek Nai Disha" (A New Direction).
