City Story
Varamin, located 25 miles southeast of Tehran, is one of Iran's most prominent villages. Varamin, an important center for tribal weaving, has kept its traditions alive while many other carpet weaving centers are changing designs to appeal to overseas markets. The cotton basis of these carpets is largely cotton, and the wool piles are soft and close to the ground. Varamin rugs are frequently decorated with mina-Khani flowers interlaced with diamond or circular designs. The majority of Varamins are medium in size. Varamin rugs and carpets are generally high-quality traditional rugs.
