The Design Story
sawanSawanChoti and her daughter both weave carpets together. The daughter brings her young ideas to the loom which her mother helps in converting them to designs. The mother-daughter duo are mostly inspired by flowers, leaves and leheriya designs. Starting off, they made a line of elongated flowers followed by a “shakarpara”- Indian sweet dish using the hand-knotting technique. They even weaved their own garden. Dolly, Choti’s daughter, has a profound affection for rain and loves watching the peacocks dance when it rains. This led her to sketch a majestic peacock made up of wool and silk yarns gracefully sitting on the top of the blooming flowers. They beautifully named their Manchaha, "Sawan" (Rainy Season) as they explain how everthing around their home starts to look more beautiful when it gets washed by the rains and this very beauty is now captured into their Manchaha.
