The Design Story
khwaishKhwaishMaya loves taking inspiration from everything around her while weaving her Manchaha carpets. She is someone who likes everything “printed”, which explains the designs she has made till the middle of the carpet. Be it the sarees she wears to the bedsheets she spreads. Moving forward she hand-crafted flowers, trees and mountains which resembled her village. Maya loves to incorporate silk in the designs she feels worth highlighting and admires the scenic beauty of her village. She especially loves weaving mountains as it reminds her of her childhood days where she along with her siblings used to go for a trek every weekend. Since it was the season of sankranti while she was working on the carpet, she wove a few kites that she saw her husband had brought to celebrate the festival. She likes to call her manchaha “Khwaish” (Wish) as she always wishes to weave Manchaha carpets every time she completes one.
