The Design Story
sarso ki pattiSarso ki PattiMaina Devi's love for farming is beautifully reflected in her Manchaha, "Sarso Ki Patti" (Leaves of Mustard). Her Manchaha is a beautiful expression of how being a farmer has shaped her into who she is today and how farming has taught her invaluable lessons. She and her husband work together to grow various crops such as bajra, urad, jawar, wheat, and chana and also practice the art of carpet weaving together. They incorporate the beauty of their farm, crops, and the lush mustard fields by hand-knotting them onto the rug. During the weaving process of this rug, the couple harvested mustard from the field they nurtured every day. They prominently captured the mustard leaves and golden fields that shine so brilliantly in the sunlight, naming their Manchaha "Sarso ki Patti."
