The Design Story
saavan ki moriyaSaavan ki Moriya“Saavan ki Moriya '' translates to “Monsoon’s peacocks”. The carpet explains the name itself as we can see two beautiful peacocks dancing on it. Sonu, Sunita, Seema and Gothi weaved this carpet together. The ladies used colourful yarns in the making of the carpet. They admit that they were scared to start a Manchaha carpet for the first time as they were given the freedom to weave any sort of design. They thought they would mess it up without a design map in hand. This is why they decided to buy a chart sheet and they drew a design on it making it their own design.. Only then, they brought the yarns to the picture. Because of the monsoons, they weaved ‘leheriya’ on the carpet. That is when they decided to weave peacocks on the carpet as peacocks are common during the monsoons. They weaved it right in the centre giving it more importance. They weaved ‘Shakkarpara’, clouds, stars, leaves, flowers, jhumkas, and random shapes. They brought a lot of random shapes into the designs to fill in. They weaved their names on the carpet in English. They have thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of weaving this hand-knotted rug.
