The Design Story
dhalta surajDhalta SurajMamta Devi’s Manchaha, “Dhalta Suraj” (Setting Sun) pictures the scenic beauty of the sky with the setting sun. Through her imagination and creativity, Mamta showcases how nature looks when the rays of a setting sun falls on them. At the bottom of her Manchaha, Mamta has woven birds with red wings, and mountains with a lining portraying the presence of sun rays on them which enhances their raw beauty. At the center of her Manchaha, Mamta has woven small patterns inspired by hearts as she was overwhelmed with her manchaha carpet. At the top of her manchaha, she sought inspiration from her leheriya sarees, which would dry in the open sky during the setting sun. Through her creativity, Mamta glorifies the beauty of the sunset, in the most effortless manner naming her manchaha “Dhalta Suraj.”
