The Design Story
beina ka khelBeina Ka KhelThe weavers of this rug consider the art of weaving manchaha rugs as similar to cooking - there's a little calculation, a little skill, and lots of love involved! They took inspiration from a very essential part of their homes and every home in their village - the humble "Beina", a beautiful hand-crafted fan is used to swing and blow cold breeze in the scorching summers of Uttar Pradesh, where our weavers reside. They began weaving beautiful diamond shapes, resembling the shape of the beina, and highlighted them with shimmery silk yarns. It was as if they were trying to pin their fans on their hand-knotted rug! They interchanged their position on the loom to give it a dynamic look, but eventually merged into one, creating a rhythmic pattern of waves. They became calculative of the yarns seeing all the silks getting extinguished. They weaved the calm patterns to balance the rug, relating it to their cooking by saying that a good dish is a combination of all the elements in balance and can only be served to others in that way. Their carpet started with a little element of beina but ended up with a deep message of life, maintaining the balance. They beautifully named their manchaha rug as "Beina Ka Khel" (The Play of Beina).
