The Design Story
chadhaeeChadhaeeAarti Devi began this Manchaha by weaving multiple different roads. Some are rough, like paths filled with stones. Some are smooth and straight. Some even have ladder-like steps, like the climbs you take on hills. All these roads move in different directions at first. They are spread across the rug. But as they reach the middle, they slowly come together into one path. That path leads to a temple woven at the top of the rug. Aarti Devi shared that this design comes from her own life. In her village, everyone takes these different paths to reach the temple situated on the mountain. Each person starts from a different place, but the destination is the same. At the top, she also wove rivers flowing down from the mountains. These are the streams seen during the monsoon, when water runs down the slopes and fills the land below. This rug is about movement, many beginnings, one meeting point, and the journey that connects them. Upon finishing this rug, she named it ‘Chadhaee,’ meaning ‘Climbing.’
