The Design Story
geherayiGeherayiLalita Devi shared that she wanted to create a feeling of being underwater with this hand-knotted rug. She has used layers of blue and green that slowly shift into each other. Nothing is sharply defined. The colours spread and settle, like light moving through water. She has woven faint patterns across the surface—some barely visible, some appearing and fading as you look. They feel like forms hidden beneath, not fully seen but always present. There is no single focal point but a central feeling of peace and depth. The rug invites you to keep looking, as if something might reveal itself if you stay a little longer. It carries the stillness of water, but also a quiet movement within it. Lalita, quite happy with her outcome, named this Manchaha ‘Geherayi’ (Depth).
