The Design Story
khwabKhwabThis rug, hand-knotted by Freedom Manchaha weavers Sahajad and Krishna, feels like a childhood memory opened after years: bright, detailed, and full of small joys. It begins at the bottom with soft blues and gentle greens, like shallow seawater near the shore. Flowers float in neat rows, butterflies flying in pairs, spinning tops, tiny animals, even smiling sun and doll-like figures. The weavers have woven all these motifs locked in a big diamond. Explaining this, they said that the motifs symbolise the dreams and memories of childhood that are locked somewhere in the corner of their hearts. And outside the box, the hazy patterns symbolise their uncertain present in the imprisonment. They called this Manchaha “Khwab,” as a tribute to their forgotten “Dreams.”
