The Design Story
ghevarGhevarLakshmi’s manchaha “Ghevar” is a beautiful portrayal of Lakshmi’s loving bond with her husband and the sweet dish. As Lakshmi weaves her manchaha, she has handcrafted memories from her loving bond with her husband of how he brings Lakshmi’s favorite sweet dish Gehwar to make her happy whenever they have a fight. Seeking motivation from this sweet memory, Lakshmi has curated patterns inspired by the same. On the other part of her rug, she had handwoven patterns inspired by leheriya sarees, bandhej dupattas, and kites flying in her village. She narrates how she used to witness young girls returning back to their homes wearing colorful dupattas from a small window “Jharokha” of her home. Through her creativity, Lakshmi has captured the beauty of the little things in her life that cheers her up in her hand-knotted rug.
