The Design Story
kittuKittuPets for humans are essentials of life. For Pooja, her pet goat, ‘Kittu’ is nothing less than a beloved family member. Her love for Kittu inspired her to weave her very first Manchaha, which is reflected in the name of the rug. While Pooja saw Manchaha as risky work, once she started weaving, she grew confident and weaved whatever her heart desired. She weaved small boxes and designs inspired by sarees. Pooja also mentioned how she wanted to make slant patches, but when the outcome didn’t satisfy her, she continued with the box motifs. On the upper half of the rug, Pooja has tried to portray an abstract design that resembles her pet goat. Pooja’s Manchaha thus envelops her unconditional love for her pet. It also subtly teaches us that while starting something new can be daunting, once you begin, you might find joy both in the process and the outcome, just like Pooja did.
