The Design Story
hamari marziHamari MarziThe artisans who created this hand-knotted rug began with a shared design. However, as they discussed further ideas, they realized each of them wanted to bring their unique creativity into the rug. Rather than debating, they decided to embrace their individuality and weave freely, allowing everyone to contribute their own vision. At the bottom of the rug, they crafted house motifs and a towering mountain, symbolizing their village. In the center, Divya and Nirmala wove a prominent house with colorful yarns, representing the home where they all gather to weave - a place close to their hearts. The rug also features patterns inspired by their daily lives: the intricate designs of handmade fans called ‘Baina,’ the look of muskmelons woven with small white circles, flowing wave patterns, and the diamond-shaped ‘Shakkarpara,’ their favorite snack. When the rug was complete, the artisans shared how it showcased each of their unique contributions. They named it “Hamari Marzi,” meaning “Our Choice,” celebrating their collaborative yet individual creativity.
