The Design Story
manorathManorathThis rug tells the story of life seen from behind prison walls — a world held within, and a world that continues to move beyond. At the heart of the rug is a large diamond filled with tightly woven symbols and patterns. These shapes reflect the weavers’ life in confinement — structured, repetitive, sometimes heavy. Around this central form, the patterns begin to shift and spread out. They become lighter, more playful, like glimpses of the world outside — changing, flowing, always moving forward. At the very top of the rug, the weavers have woven a butterfly. It’s a symbol of transformation. For the artisans, the prison is like a cocoon. It may hold them for now, but it is also shaping them, slowly and deeply. One day, they believe, they will fly free like that butterfly carrying hope, change, and a new beginning. Woven by Khem Singh, Jagdish, Mohit, and Gurupreet, this rug is a gentle reminder that even in the stillness of confinement, dreams take shape, and hope always finds a way to rise. With this thought, they named the rug “Manorath” (Desire).
