sashawan (c.1900)This antique Sashawan flatweave, woven circa 1900 presents a bold stripe design across its expansive 6 x 11 field. Alternating bands of medium rose, gold, indigo, and ivory create a rhythmic sequence, softened by subtle touches of green and brown. Narrow dotted lines accentuate the stripes, lending depth and texture to the otherwise minimal composition. The borders are understated, defined by slim brown and ivory guard stripes that frame the design with quiet restraint, allowing the vivid stripes of the field to command full attention.
