tajik (c.1930)Antique Tajik Kilim with Geometric Design, Central Asia, circa 1930 Amber glow and sangria tones dominate the field of this antique Tajik flatweave, its design arranged in bold horizontal bands of twilight blue, warm amber, and deep red. Within these bands appear stepped diamond motifs and serrated-edged panels, their angular rhythm creating a striking geometric composition. The motifs, abstract yet balanced, reflect tribal symbolism of protection and harmony. The borders are defined by narrow stripes in alternating shades of brown and ivory, with occasional diamond devices breaking the linear flow. This piece is a strong example of Central Asian tribal weaving, where simplicity of form, rich color contrasts, and symbolic motifs come together to create both utility and visual power.
