The Design Story
chalte firteChalte FirteHeena and Lakshmi, a pair of creative sisters, never share their design ideas with each other but always follow their instincts. When they get stuck, they find inspiration in their surroundings, turning everyday things into beautiful art. This Manchaha rug is like a treasure hunt—if you look closely, you'll see intricate designs and motifs. The sisters have included birds, butterflies, flowers, plants in pots, and various trees in the rug. They've also added everyday objects like water jugs, tea cups, and glasses. To capture their everyday life, they've woven in cars, trucks, and two bicycles, reflecting how Heena’s kids are always playing on them. All these elements come together to illustrate how life is fleeting. The weavers shared that time is moving fast and they wish to cherish all the little things to the fullest like woven in the rug. With this idea in mind, they named the hand-knotted rug ‘Chalte-Frite,’ meaning ‘On the Move.’
