The Design Story
kuch-kuchKuch-KuchThis Manchaha carpet portrays the magic that little things add to our lives. Savitri, Kavita, and Aarti started weaving this manchaha, looking around their surroundings. On the left, Savitri began crafting a foot mat they made using old colorful clothes. She also weaved an “Ardu tree” that feeds her goats. Kavita, in the middle, started with her signature wavy pattern using her wool yarns. Whereas Aarti on the right hand-knotted the mountains filled with little cactuses. As they proceeded, they weaved whatever caught their eyes. When they reached halfway, they felt they were going very different paths. They wanted to create something meaningful together and decided to weave that one thing cherished by all three: the saree. They adorned the upper half of the rug with borders, the pallu, delicate motifs, and patterns of the sarees they wore each day. They say, “There is a little bit of everything in this Manchaha, which can only be felt just like the little things in our lives,” which aptly explains the name, “Kuch-Kuch,” making us feel “something” in our hearts.
