The Design Story
jhil mil aasmanJhil Mil Aasman"Jhil Mil Aasman" took shape after an unexpected event that happened during the time Sharmila was weaving this rug. She started off with basic patterns, until one day, when she took all her old sarees out of her wardrobe and spread them under the sunlight on her terrace, in the open sky, to let them soak up some sun. The sarees looked so beautiful as the sun fell onto them, creating a play of light and shadow everywhere. This beautiful view inspired Sharmila to capture the shimmer and glimmer of her leheriya sarees into her hand-knotted rug, her manchaha too. She dynamically weaved different shades of blue wool and silk yarns, creating an array of leheriya designs. After which, she weaved in the sparkly embellishment of her sarees that shimmered in the sun into her manchaha by weaving those stars into the rug. She appropriately named her manchaha rug "Jhil Mil Aasman" (Sparkly Sky), a beautifully hand-knotted rug.
