The Design Story
neele baadalNeele BaadalEvery one of us has seen clouds in the sky and has tried to interpret them with our imagination. Artisan Mamta named her Manchaha Rug “Neele Baadal” which means “Blue Clouds”. Mamta was inspired by the monsoon season to weave blue clouds and mountains. She has also woven the classic designs of ‘leheriya’ (waves) to represent rainfall. Mamta used light shades like white and yellow to differentiate the designs of waves and clouds and added intricate designs to enhance the overall look of the rug. She weaved a lot of light-colored clouds to represent the intermittent rain as she wove the carpet. The best memory for Mamta while weaving was her daughter helping her weave. They would disagree with each other at first but then would somehow weave in harmony. Mamta could spend some quality time with her daughter this way, and she shared that she feels grateful that she could pass on the art of weaving to her daughter.
