The Design Story
rimjhimRimjhimThe drizzling rain, chilly winds, and the earthy scent of rain meeting soil often serve as a profound wellspring of inspiration for artists, as was the case with Manju. This artisan wondered what to weave on the carpet every day. But when Monsoon arrived, it stirred her creative abilities. With the traditional ‘Leheriya’ (wavy) patterns that she found in sarees, she showcased the beauty of rainfall. Manju wove tiny dots and diamonds at the beginning that represent the raindrops. Apart from that, she has also woven a ‘Bandarwal’ (decorational hanging) to give it a unique look. Manju shared that she loved looking at the rain falling while she worked on her loom. And she tried to translate that very picture onto the rug, calling it ‘Rimjhim’, meaning ‘Drizzle’.
