The Design Story
hariyali mai hiranHariyali Mai Hiran‘Hariyali Mai Hiran’ (Deer in Greenery) is a Manchaha woven by Aarati Devi. She began with leheriya — wavy lines filled with small decorative details. She wove these patterns to represent rain in a colour that represents forest and prosperity. The movement, the rhythm, the small motifs, all of it comes from watching rain fall and spread across the land. In the middle of the jungle, she wove a running deer on a grand scale. She says she often sees deer in the forests in the mountains around her village. That sight stayed with her, and she brought it into the carpet. The deer becomes the centre of the rug. Around it, the forest grows through patterns and texture. At the end, she finished the rug with colourful diamond patterns. This rug carries rain, forest, and a moment from her everyday life, all woven in her own way.
